How to hem an edge without pinning it first
First you pull the edge tight with your right hand and let the edge curl over.
Second you pull the fabric sideways with your left fingers while your right hand has the fabric pulled tight. You then use your left fingers to fold the fabric twice.
While it is folded you can place your pointer finger on the fold to keep it flat while you sew that fold.
Stop sewing when your pointer finger is close to the needle.
You repeat this process over and over until your hem is sewn.
